Think about this for a moment...
If you are out there on the social web or blogging regularly, did you know that there are at least 15 human beings out there who are pretty fanatic about you and your work? I learned this wonderful, anecdotal stat a presentation given by from Ten Golden Rules author and CEO Jay Berkowitz.
Profound or no surprise?
Maybe it's just me but I think the 15-fans-at-minimum metric per person who actively writes, blogs and is socially adept online is rather eye opening and profound when you really think about it.
I recently met with a local reporter and newspaper photographer about this very topic. I recall the photographer mentioning how often he finds himself thinking his family or friends don't care much about his status updates on Facebook.
The photographer may be right. Just as Clara Shih mentioned at her Facebook Era presentation in Boston earlier this March, your strongest fans or network members tend to be what she refers to as on the fringe. This means those whom are furthest from you - not in geography but not close to you in so far as being friends, colleagues, family members or known associates - usually tend to be, over time, our strongest fans or supporters.
These folks are typically on the fringe outskirts of our networks yet they are possibly the very ones who make up most of that specific 15-member, hard core fan base Jay says we - who are online consistently - seem to have.
15 people out there can't wait for your next move
Consider this 15-fans-at-minimum metric for a moment. This mean you have 15 folks who daily look forward to what your next blog post will be about, what new tweets you'll be sharing on Twitter or the next photo set you'll upload to your Flickr feed.
Yes, some folks have well more fans, friends or followers than 15 but this is not Jay's point. The point is that there are at least 15 die-hard fans. And die-hard fans aren't just any fans.
