DFG Rule # 1: Break fast
Going without breaking the fast you can look forward to potentially putting on weight, a sluggish metabolism, & bowel cancer, to name just a few. (example of intestines/transit time) Slower transit time = increased chance of getting low bowel disease (haemorrhoids, piles ulcers, bowel cancer, diverticulitis)
Most people deliberately slow the emptying of this pipethey refuse to eat breakfast
Break fast used to be two words, it breaks a 17 hour fast. Most of us eat all our food in 7 hours b/w 1pm and 8pm, and stuff all for the next 17 hourscoffee & a smoke to kick start the motor. It takes a few minutes to reduce your risk of developing the biggest cancer killer in the Western world, speed up your metabolism and start to shed some unwanted pounds, so why wouldn't you?
DFG Rule # 2: Exercise
Perhaps you can eat whatever you like and not put on any weight and/or you exercise so often that you burn any excess off! If anything you believe you can get away with eating quite a bit of junk food. Unfortunately, these people are never given a warning to prompt them to reassess their dietary habits. A sudden and unexpected demise is often the first and final warning. Intense exercise coupled with numerous environmental factors and without optimum nutrition can be detrimental to our health.
Put into perspective, exercise, a simple 30-minute walk each day can improve your quality of sleep, boost your immune system, reduce your blood pressure and help prevent the onset of many adult-onset degenerative diseases including heart disease and diabetes.
Fanatical exercisers (example of 35yo athlete, no care for diet) can break down tissues in the tendons, muscles & joints faster than the regeneration process.
Best types of exercise? Intensity? Take your resting pulse rate, should be b/e 55 75. (Slob, heavy coffee drinker or a smoker) generally 20-30bpm higher this means your heart is overworking by an extra 10 15 million beats a year! Duration?
DFG Rule # 3: MODERATION IN ALL THINGS
4things you can use to excess are:
Laughter
Sex
Vegetables and
Fish
In no particular order, & not all at onceit makes one hell of a mess!
DFG Rule # 4: Nutrition - Separate myth from fact
Myth: Low-fat foods are ok .
Fact: A product can have zero fat but be heavily laden with sugar.
Many fat-free foods replace the fat with sugar so as to be more appealing to the taste buds. The high sugar content will hinder your body's fat burning ability, the fact that you've given it sugar to burn tells the energy system leave the body fatlet's go the quick & easy way.
Myth: To lose fat, and improve your body, don't eat.
Fact: To build a lean, healthy body, you have eat!
One of the most crucial mistakes people make is to severely restrict food intake. This doesn't work. If you're "starving off" unwanted fat you'll losemuscle & fluid. The body's natural response is to fight back when you deprive it of good nutrition when you decrease intake the body responds by decreasing the rate at which it burns fat. Your body assumes a famine has just hit & makes a switch into survival' mode. As an added bonus, when you go off the diet you will put on all the weight you've lost and more (you've turned the body into a less efficient fat-burning machine & now you can eat less & still gain fat what a great plan!)
Myth: Eating right means three "square meals" a day.
Fact: Eating six nutritious meals a day is the right way.
To look better, feel better, improve your health, you must develop the pattern of feeding your body frequently grazing. By doing this you will keep your body's food alarm in check & as it begins to trust' you, your metabolic rate will be accelerated from a mower engine to a jet engine!! Eating every few hours will give you more energy, less hunger pangs and you'll create a metabolic environment that supports healthy fat loss and lean muscle sparing.
Myth: High-carbohydrate, low-fat diets work best.
Fact: People are becoming fat from too much carbohydrate
The fact that fat free' foods are often extremely high in carbs we are seeing more incidence of obesity. This is due to over consumption of refined carbohydrates and thus insulin resistance. Insulin is released when we eat carbs, among other things, it shuttles blood glucose into the cellswhen we have too much insulin release the body cannot burn fat for energy. The solution is to eat a balance of carbohydrates and protein.
Myth: You have to count calories.
Fact: You should count portions, not calories.
A portion is an amount roughly equal to the size of your clenched fist or the palm of your hand. As long as the foods you select are low fat & nutritious, you can't go wrong.
Myth: You have to eat perfectly' all the time.
Fact: There's no such thing as eating perfectly'.
If you end up eating too much, or not often enough on occasions, put it behind you and get back on track. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't ever give up on yourself. Allow yourself a free day' where you eat whatever you desire. The moment you are restricted to any eating plan you are bound to rebel due to the fact that your right to choose has been violated.
The best advice free day', it's very liberating to know you've got this one up your sleeve. Most importantly remember that it's just food. You control it. It doesn't control you.
Focus on progress, not perfection and remember no food will ever taste as good as looking and feeling the greatest and healthiest you can be.
