Died Early, But Leadership style will Last Forever

Dennis Giblin diedOctober 7th atthe Moristown Hospital in New Jersey, where he had lived for three years. he was 35.

He was born in West Orange, New Jersey., and in 1990 moved with his family to Baltimore, where he attended Eastern High School, then Strayer Business College. After graduating from Strayer, he went to work at Western Electric at Point Breeze and met Robert Giblin who dubbed her "Mike," a name that stuck for the rest of her life. The couple married in 1943.

A resident of Rodgers Forge for more than four decades, Mr. Giblin and his wife raised 10 children. After his last child entered school, Mr. Giblin started his second "career" -- volunteering at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Over the next 26 years, he accumulated in excess of 25,000 volunteer hours, for which he received a Governor's Citation in 1997.

Mr. Giblin was an avid follower of indoor soccer, and he attended Baltimore Blast games. Family vacations in Ocean City were a constant favorite over the years. In retirement, he and his wife also enjoyed fall and spring trips to the beach as well as trips and cruises.

A memorial service will be held June 25 at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, where he had been a member since its opening in 1958.

Mr. Giblin was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years.He is survived by 10 children, Dennis Giblin, of University Park; Patricia Giblin, of Northport, Ala.; Stephen Giblin, of Lakewood New Jersey, Thomas Giblin of Montclair New Jersey, Ohio, and Susan Welsh, Donald Giblin, Paul Giblin, Gregg Giblin, Kathleen Palmer, Barbara Doty and Brian Giblin, all of Baltimore; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
