I feel that I am very qualified to write this article, as I am a woman over 40 who has been a part of many different diets. After years of going up and down, I really feel that the long-term diet and exercise changes are the way to go. But it's not that easy to teach an old dog new tricks. A diet for women over 40 has to include this stubborn "dog" factor that we've established over the years.
The only logical way of handling the weight loss dilemma is to incorporate changes into the current lifestyle of the individual. Trying to change entirely a whole life is nearly impossible. Some people have done it expertly. But to most of us changing habits is very difficult. What I have learned from yo-yo diets and health abuse is that you have to insert diet changes in a smart manner.
How can we do this? I started by changing the way I eat. I used to gulp my food down without really chewing properly. I would overeat because I couldn't tell when I was really full. Just by taking smaller bites and chewing slowly made it possible for me to really enjoy my food and it caused me to understand when I needed to stop eating.
Also, drinking lots of water helps. You can substitute the coke or juice you usually drink for a bottle of water instead. Sodas have no nutritional value at all and are unnecessary in a healthy diet. This one can be difficult for some because they are addicted to diet coke or regular cokes. I know. I was one of them. When you're at the store and you have the chance to buy a coke buy a bottle of water instead.
Take those stairs when you can. If you can, park your car farther away from work and walk the rest of the way. Exercise when you are watching TV. Cleaning your house is valid exercise and you can get two things done at once. Put in some activity in your life everyday.
Start putting more vegetables and fruits in your diet. Have a healthy snack like fruit or vegetables with hummus. Salsa is great with eggs or vegetables and gives you a little more zip in your snacks. You can eat healthier and still snack.
You see. These small changes add up to weight loss and smart healthy solutions that you can use for the rest of your life. A diet for a woman over 40 can be one that will give her the health and weight loss she wants for the rest of her life.
