Difference Between T1 Internet And High Speed Dsl

DSL and T1 are two entirely different types of data transfer services

. Most of the people using data transfer services have no idea about the difference between high speed DSL and T1. It is very important to know the difference in order to make a better choice according to your requirements. To start with, the basic difference between DSL and T1 is that DSL is cheaper, offers faster downloads that are not consistent. T1 on the other hand is fast and consistent download speeds at a higher price.

The basics of DSL and T1

Telephones are connected to the network of data centre services provider through a loop. The loop is made of twisted copper wires. Since human voices have a frequency lower than 3400Hz and digital data has a frequency higher than 3400Hz, both voice and data can be transmitted through the same line, something that is applied in DSL. t1 internet on the other hand is delivered through a four wire fibre access. T1 lines hence have a capability of carrying larger data when compared to telephone lines.

Distance sensitivity

Signals that are transmitted via telephone lines as in the case of high speed DSL tend to degrade as the distance between the user and the carrier increase. To put it down in simple words, the quality of the service deteriorates as we move further away from the carrier. T1 internet offers more consistent connection even at a distance with good connection speed of 1.54Mbps. The speed of the T1 line is independent of the distance of the customer from the provider.

Copper wire vs Fibre optics

DSL is passed only through copper wires. Traditionally telephone wires were made from copper but modern telephone transmission systems may include fibre optic transmissions. Hence, DSL services will not be available at places where traditional wires have been replaced by fibre optic transmission systems. T1 line is offered through dedicated fibre optic lines that can be installed anywhere.

Upload and Download speeds

DSL is generally sold in two plans, ADSL or asymmetric DSL and SDSL or symmetric DSL. ADSL is used in small businesses and homes, the connection has slower upload speeds but considerable download speeds. SDSL has similar upload and download speeds. T1 line have an upload and download speed of 1.54 Mbps.

Price

The most significant difference between the two data centre services is the price. A T1 connection can cost about 10 times more than a DSL connection
