Gills were protected by the bony plate known as the operculum.

The fin of the Tropical is the external attachment or the limb of the fishes. The fins are utilized for stabilization, direction, or propelling of the fish species under the water. There are several types of fins that vary from specie to species, but here are the most common along with their specific functions:

Dorsal Fins - they are located at the back of the fish and it is for the fish stability for swimming.

Caudal Fins - they are located at the tail of the fishes and serve for the propelling under the water.

Ventral Fins - they are at the pelvic area of the fishes and act also for stability or strength in swimming.

Anal Fins - these fins are located nearby the anus of the fishes and they are also acting as stability for the swimming.

Pectoral Fins - they are located at the breast of the fishes and they are acting for the side-to-side movements of the fish and also with the locomotion.

Cephalic Fins - they are the horns of the manta rays and also fishes of their relations.

Adipose Fins - they are the extra fleshy fins located at the back and behind the dorsal fins for the stability of swimming too.
