This gave a chance to make uniforms with different designs. The modernization of the textile industry made it easy. When the ancient day tartan weaver used to make one or two clothes in a week, the present day modern industries are producing a large number of cloths with tartan pattern. The case of Fair Isle sweaters is also same. The large scale production reduced the cost of production and the cloths become cheaper. This made the once elite cloths like tartan wears affordable to all class of people.

When a tartan weaver weaves the wool he used natural colors to color the wool. Hence the number of colors available on those days was limited. After the arrival of chemical colors, a number of tartan patterns have come in the market with different colors and different shades of same colors. As the concept of fashion changes, more and more patterns will certainly come to exist.
