Different Publishing Methods

"There are different publishing methods," I hear you thinking.

Yes there are! Thanks to the wonders of technology the traditional ways to publishing are no longer ahead. Authors are now taking the plunge to self publish their book and some of them are doing this successfully.

But I won"t keep you in suspense any longer I know that you are curious to find out what the methods are. Since it was mentioned before let"s start off with the first of the three main techniques, and that is self publishing.

With self publishing you do all the book production yourself. You pay for the printing, do your publicity, pricing, design your own cover, and pay for the distribution. You have no backing from a traditional publisher or agent. If you choose this option you would need to work out your financial budget as you don"t want to break the bank. Most major bookstores do not accept books that are self published that is why most self published books are publicise online or amongst friends and family. The good news is that you get to keep 100% of the royalties.

Then comes good old traditional publishing, this when a publisher invests in your book. They pay for the printing, design cover, do the price, and distribution. Your book is completely under their control and all full time bestselling authors write for traditional publishers. Unfortunately with them they very unlikely to accept manuscripts from unknown authors but you can send them a query letter, if they like your idea they will contact you further. All major bookstores off and online accept books from authors who have traditional publishers backing them. They do take a cut of your royalties which is ten per cent.

Next is vanity publishing this method is a combination of self and traditional publishing. While these publishers do make an investment towards your book for example they pay for the printing, distribution, and do the pricing, they expect you to invest the rest of the money towards your book. They also take a percent of your royalties and help towards the marketing.

Choices, choices, choices there are so many choices within the publishing industry which method do you choose? Well whichever decision you make choose one that is suited to you. If you think you can handle self publishing go for it if not go for the other two.

You don"t need to rush in your decision making and if you want other fellow writers advice you can join writing forums such as faithwriters.com. Not only will you get advice but you will also get to hear of their experiences of the publishing methods that they have chosen and how it worked for them.
