Although there are certain national certification boards designed to certify courses

and graduates on basic teaching methods and abilities, each TEFL course can cover whatever they think is important for their students to know. And it might be done in a few hours or in an extended class. There are even on-line courses to cover the majority of the material with some practical experience meeting with teachers. Chances are that no matter which TEFL Brighton course you take, you are going to learn a lot about English that you may never have realized before.

That being said, however, and your understanding that each individual TEFL Brighton class will cover slightly different material, there are some pretty basic topics that most courses should cover and if, in fact, your chosen course does not, you may want to reconsider. That may seem counterintuitive, but if you understand their language, it might provide a teaching example or moment where you can show them how English differs. Any foreign language skills you already have can only be beneficial as it might allow you to speak with your students in their own tongue, which is always good for breaking down barriers.

You should be expected to learn some teaching techniques in a TEFL Brighton course, ways of getting those grammar lessons, spelling lessons, vocabulary lessons from your brain into the brains of your students no matter what age they are or their education level before they arrive in your class. If you intend to specialize in the types of classes you teach, ie, business classes, then you might also expect that your TEFL Brighton class to help you with the specialized vocabulary that teaching a class in that subject matter may require such as financial terms and understanding international business terms as well.

There are numerous ways to become certified in TEFL, but if you are seriously interested in doing the job well, whether it is through a volunteer effort or for pay, then you need to get some sort of training and the more comprehensive it is, the better you will be in the job.
