The lanyards are the strings which are able to hold the ID cards and accessories for a person

. These can be worn round your neck with the cards hanging down or kept in the pockets. The Id cards tell your identity to the others. The plastic identity card can be punched with a card punch to create a hole and the lanyard can pass through the same. Alternatively, the ID cards can be placed inside in a card holder which can then be attached to the lanyard.

The lanyards can be made from different types of materials. The artificial fibres like the polyester and nylon can be woven to make these lanyards and to customize these, the name of the organization can be imprinted in these. These can also be made from the beads and from the natural fabrics. The materials which can be imprinted are printed using the digital printing technology. Those which can not be printed, the name and design are woven into the custom lanyards.

The lanyards are used for many other purposes as well. The ones made of special heavy duty materials are used for absorbing the shock while the fall of a person is arrested. Then there are the special tie-back lanyards which are used to tie to the back of a person. So, these are commonly employed by the people in adventure sporting activity of falling from a cliff or rock climbing or doing other similar activity where the shock is to be absorbed. There are also the self retracting lines which retract back after opening full swing.

But, the most common use is for holding the ID cards, whether through a card holder or by way of the custom lanyard passing through the hole created by the punch. The companies selling the ID cards also provide the simple and plain lanyards as the accessories.
