Different Types Of Foundation

Although it may seem clichd, having a strong foundation is one sure way of ensuring that a project or an endeavor would succeed

. This is the same principle behind buildings and other tall structures. But what role does a foundation play in ensuring that these structures withstand the test of time?

There are actually different types of foundation. Three of the most common types include the T-shaped foundation, the slab-on-grade foundation, and the frost protected foundation. The first type, the t-shaped foundation, is considered to be a traditional foundation method which is suited for areas where the ground freezes for most of the time. In this type of foundation, the footing is wider thus providing more support for the structure. The t-shaped foundation is installed first below the frozen area before the walls are put up. The slab is then poured between the walls.

The second most common type of foundation is the slab-on-grade foundation. In here, the slab is usually thicker at the edges which provides for an integral footing. Reinforcing rods are then inserted in order to strengthen the edge. This type of foundation is preferred because everything is poured all at the same time.

The frost protected is the third type of foundation. This type of foundation works only on heated structure. This means that you might find yourself having to pour your energies in concrete stabilization if you use it in structures that have mostly lower temperatures. They provide the benefits of a slab-on-grade foundation and can be used on areas that are subject to frost.

Since foundations receive the brunt of pressure, they tend to show cracks easily especially if the soil underneath them is not compact enough. Depending on the type of problem you have, you can employ a number of concrete stabilization technologies to keep your foundation from falling apart.

If you are having problems with your concrete foundation and are not aware of how to handle it, you might want to get in touch with a number of contractors who can help you with stabilizing it. They usually make use of various concrete stabilization technologies so you need not worry about it.
