Different Types Of Laboratory Microscopes And Their Uses
Looking at small objects, not visible to the naked eye
, through a microscope opens up a whole new world of discoveries and knowledge. The development of science and technology has provided man with the means of finding out about everything that is around him closely enough to notice even the minutest detail, literally so. Microscopes are used for purposes related to tissue analysis, examining forensic evidence, determining the health of an ecosystem, studying the role of a protein in a cell, and of course, studying atomic structures. In health care, Microscopes are used to test blood and urine samples for traces of diseases, examine the extent of a disease, or to monitor the effectiveness of a treatment. The studies carried out with the help of microscopes by doctors, researchers and scientists have helped medicine and science in a big way.
Laboratory Microscope Types And Their Uses
Optical Microscopes: Also known as Light Microscopes, these are optical instruments containing one or more lenses that are made of refractive glass which focuses light into the eye or another light detector. There are mirror based Microscopes that operate the same way.
Electron Microscope: Within this category there are some sub-categories like, the Scanning Electron Microscope that is used to scan the surface of bulk objects closely, also known as Environmental Scanning Microscope and Transmission Electron Microscope that passes electrons through the sample.
Fluorescence and Light Microscope: Fluorescence means the emission of long wavelength of light by compounds when touched by short wavelength light. This Microscope uses an ultraviolet light source to transmit light through a specimen. This process is used to detect antibodies attached to cell components.
Scanning Probe Microscope: This Microscope forms images of surfaces using a physical probe that scans the specimen.
Laboratory Microscopes are potent enough to enable anybody, who uses them, to observe single-celled micro-organisms. They have several technical features that are installed specially for enlargement of view. There are various types and models of Microscopes that differ in specifications, and are classified on the basis of what interacts with samples to generate images, or whether they analyze a sample through a scanning point or all at once.
