Different Types Of Online Gamer

There are many types of gamer, ranging from absolute beginner to seasoned professional. I don't aim to cover every single type of gamer but will cover well know types of gamer and game player.

Newbies

Newbies or "noobs" tend to be younger or new players, they are often mocked by the online community and the better players for being utterly useless and having no clue about gaming culture or the lingo.

Many of these newbies grow up to become the ones doing the mocking as a new generation of gamer comes online.

Casual Gamers

Casual gaming has become increasingly popular with the introduction of motion activated controllers and games where the player can fully immerse themselves with the movements of their character.

Casual gamers tend to be older females, but the spectrum of players is vast ranging from very young children to older adults. From sports and fitness games through to action and adventure.

Hardcore Gamers

These are the teenagers that spend 15 hours a day online playing the latest blockbuster video game, the players who use voice chat to communicate with their online friends and are constantly looking to better there game playing skills.

They spend the most amount on new games, and often are active members of a games online community. Bragging about their achievements, high scores and when they beat someone comes as second nature.

Hardcore gamers have been hired by game developers in the past as game testers, game designers and to offer creative input from a player perspective.

Professional / Competitive Gamers

Professional gaming has taken huge growth in recent years, with some sponsored players earning in excess of $100k per year.

Competitive gamers often specialise in one franchise of games rather than a broader spectrum of titles and travel around the world in teams to take part in online competitions.

In Asia gaming competitions are often streamed live to stadiums full of fans and can also be shown on live prime time television.

Retro Gamers

retro gamers are different altogether preferring to spend their time playing old 1980's and 1990's consoles, from a time when the graphics had to take second place to playability and entertainment.

Many players use old console emulators and run the games on their newer pc systems, but a lot more people are digging out the original consoles too.
