Different Types Of Trees
A tree is a plant with a wood trunk that grows to a height of between three and six meters
. Its trunk also has a circumference of more than thirty centimeters. These are just the minimum requirements for a tree; some even grow up to a hundred meters in height and ten meters in width. In addition, some have very impressive weights, such as over two thousand tones and can live for over one hundred years. A shrub is a plant that resembles it, but is shorter in height. There are very many different species found all over the world. In addition, forests cover a good surface area of the earth.
Trees can be classified in different categories but the two main categories are, coniferous and deciduous. The coniferous category keep their leaves throughout the year. They only shed their old leaves and new ones grow to replace those that have been shed. This category is further divided into two to include those that have leaves in the form of needles and those that have broad leaves. Examples of these are pines, firs and hemlocks. They are usually gigantic, forming a canopy at the top. They prevent the growth of smaller plants because they prevent sunlight from reaching the ground.
The second category are the deciduous trees. These ones shed their leaves as an adaptation to cold or dry weather. This category grows very fast, lives long and also grows to high heights. The category can further be divided into four groups based on their leaf type and arrangement. They are used for making bottle corks and are also popular for landscaping. Examples of this include; oak, maple, ash and poplar. They are mainly found in the temperate, tropical or sub-tropical regions. However, the evergreens are mainly found in the equatorial regions.
Trees are bought from nurseries, and come in three categories. These categories are, bare root, container grown, or balled and bur lapped. These are then transplanted for various uses depending on the type. Their uses include:
Making medicine and for natural remedies.
Fruits from fruit bearing ones.
Wind breaks in areas which are prone to strong winds.
Landscaping in homes, parks and on streets.
Providing privacy when used during fencing.
Recreational purposes.
Timber for furniture making, building and construction.
For firewood and charcoal
