Urethane foam: This type is also suitable for light to medium and heavy traffic. However, with years the bottom of this underlay may become flatten. So, you should a very high density layer to lessen the possibility of the bottoming out of the cushion. You should not use waste materials or fillers more than one percent in the underlay.

Cellular rubber or sponge: The sponge or foam stuffs imparts a great lush feeling. However, this type is generally not recommended for those house with heavy traffic. This type ensure a firm and tight underlay and can also retain odours. So, you should be careful about not spilling anything on it. This type is great for sound proofing a room. This type is mostly used in recording studios.
