Different Ways To Achieve Rehabilitation
There are various types of rehabilitation programs available to meet the individual needs of those who are recovering from substance abuse
. The programs range from in-patient lockdown detoxification facilities to outpatient options where individuals live at home and take advantage of the services as needed. The choice a person makes will have to do with their level of need, their personal preference, what is available in the community, and their ability to pay. Some programs are covered by health insurance while others are not. People usually get involved with alcohol and drugs to make themselves feel better. Users may feel peppier or more relaxed initially but eventually they become enslaved to the substances.
If an addict is addicted to large amounts of alcohol or drugs, he or she will likely need a detoxification treatment center that is similar to what is offered in a hospital or medical clinic. In this setting, physicians and nurses would monitor the physical condition of each person as he or she withdraws from the substance. This is the highest level of treatment for the most severely addicted of the group.
Most residential treatment centers have open door policies and are enrolled in by the patients because they desire recovery. The doors in these facilities are not locked and participants can come and go as they please. These rehabilitation centers offer each in-patient a chance to recover and start a new life through support groups, healthy activities such as yoga, massage, meditation, and more. There may be a spiritual component such as a Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, or non-denominational faith based program.
After completion of a thirty or sixty day rehabilitation program, an individual may opt for a transitional living housing arrangement to further enhance sobriety. This is halfway in between a rehab facility and living on one's own. In previous times, transitional houses were called halfway houses but that term is no longer politically correct. In this living space, an individual may have his or her own room, have chores to do in the house such as cooking, dishwashing, and tidying up just like he or she would have in a freestanding house or apartment. In these sober living homes, residents agree to be tested for drugs or alcohol consumption through random urinalyses.
Day programs are other alternatives to in-patient rehabilitation centers. In day programs, individuals would go home at night to eat dinner and sleep before returning the next day for another round of group therapy, healthy lifestyle lessons, and coping tools 101. These options are often associated with in-patient programs.
All in all, rehab programs are designed to help men and women suffering from substance abuse to find their ways to sobriety. Through detoxification, counseling, psychotherapy, medical intervention, learning coping tools and making healthier lifestyle plans, many individuals are able to turn their lives around for the good. After completing one or a succession of programs, addicts can start fresh, free of their challenges with substances such as alcohol or drugs.
