What does dining at home mean to you? Does it mean boring and inexpensive or cosy and delicious

? I suppose that would depend on where in the world you are and how much effort you put in to your cooking and culinary experiences in general.

If you are living in a farmhouse in Italy, you can enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with owning lots of land. You can also enjoy the fresh produce and delicious ingredients that are sold in the world's food capital. Invite friends around for some delicious home grown wine, fresh pasta and good company. Afterwards, you can go for a walk around your property to walk off your lunch and maybe even go for a swim if there is water nearby.

If you are renting a villa in Ibiza, you might treat your friends to an afternoon by the pool together with cocktails and tapas served all day long. When lying in the sun people tend to prefer to eat light and drink lots. Get your guests excited about a night of partying with the latest drum and bass tunes and water fights.

If you're staying in a small Greek village where everyone knows each other you might invite the community members to come to your house for some souvlaki takeout together with ouzo, wine and all of the Greek delicacies. You can play drinking games around your patio table and dance to the sounds of island nights.

If you've rented a cute little guest house in Brazil, you can bring a grill down to the beach and fry up some freshly caught fish. Sit around a bond fire in the sand and enjoy delicious eats, good company and yummy caipirinhas under the stars.

If you are lucky enough to be on your own private island in Cambodia, invite all your friends and family to come down for a few days and throw a huge party. You can hire a dj and have the whole thing catered. With your own island you're sure to have enough room for everyone to stay. Your friends and family are sure to love you for it!

If you are right at home, throw your favourite meal into the oven and have a homely dinner with your nearest and dearest right in your own garden. It might not be as exclusive or elaborate as the above suggestions but it will be just as lovely. After all, sitting around a garden dining table in the comfort of your own home, and cooking in your own kitchen is about as real as it gets.
