Sometimes colocation can be very expensive if compared to the basic web hosting as this is very important while it requires the maintenance and needs to manage the servers by yourself, so literally when you need to upgrade the servers then you also need to purchase the hardware and needs the installation of the same.

Since the access to the server may be sometimes very difficult to access, you need to travel to the location where you need to take time to reach the office of the colocation server.

Also, if you need to move out of the area where your colocation provider is, you need to have to either move your servers to a new hosting provider or leave them there and just pay for the maintenance contract.

Since one of the factors in the monthly rate of collocating a server is the amount of data transferred via the server in the monthly period, an unusually large amount of traffic in a monthly period can cause the bill for the service to jump dramatically.

The major cost variable is the amount of data traffic between your servers and the Internet. A spike in traffic can incur steep charges for excess bandwidth, just like your cell phone bill goes through the ceiling when you exceed your monthly allotment of minutes. Also, another option is to pay the colocation center to maintain your systems at your own place but it will attract some additional cost.
