Disc Golf - A Guide to Basic Discs

If you are new disc golf, like anything else, you will need the proper equipment to start playing and improving

. In disc golf all you need are the discs. There are three different types of discs that you will need to get started. It is possible to play with just one disc, but it's good practice to start learning the differences between the differently designed discs and how they feel.

The first disc is the driver. This is meant for longer throws. It's not too accurate but that's not the point as distance is better. There are hundreds of various types of drivers. For the most part if it allow for better distance it typically will curve more. Drivers for beginners are a bit harder to use as they tend to curve almost too much.

The second type of disc is the mid range. These are used for shorter and closer shots where driving is just too much but putting is too far. For beginners at times driving with this disc at first is advisable. These discs do not go as far but tend to have more of a straight path giving you more control. This is good especially when you are aiming to get close to the basket.

The last type is the putter. Some putters are thick plastic that have weight to them so they can go into the chains completely straight and land in the basket. Other putters are more jelly-like. These will hit the chains and slide down into the basket. Different player prefer one or the other for different reasons but both work well.

If you could only buy one disc to start, get a mid range. But the discs are cheap enough normally around $10 to $20 each that getting a set of these three isn't a problem.
