Disc Golf Information
Popularly known as Frisbee golf, disc golf is more like the conventional ball' golf, only that players play with specially designed flying discs and not the balls and clubs. Also, in playing disc golf, the flying discs are thrown for par' at above-the-ground target, rather than a hole in the ground. Just as the conventional golfers employ wide range of clubs when playing, disc golfing also involves the use of wide range of discs for different purposes. If you can throw disc, then you can play Frisbee golf.
What You Need
If you are a beginner in disc golfing and just started to have Disc Golf Fun, you will need a starter set. Also, if you are a pro Frisbee golfer, you would need to heighten your experience by trying out new Disc Golf Discs and also replace your worn-out playing kits. In a well organized disc golf online store, kits and items are organized by type and brand to help you find what you want easily.
How the Game Works
Now, in disc golfing, the game is focused on throwing a golf disc into a target which is known as a Pole Hole basket, with as few number of throws as possible. To start playing, the player drives' from a specific tee area, and advances towards the target; each successive throw is done from the point or spot where the last throw landed. At last, the disc is sent into the target with a successful putt'. Every Frisbee golfer gets excited when the ching!' sound is heard this is when the disc comes crashing the chains prior to dropping into the basket.
Disc Golf Drive
While you will find some nine-hole courses, most disc golf courses comprise of 18 or 24 holes. There are different holes lengths, but typically, holes lengths are between 150 and 500 ft each. Certain hazards from trees, water, terrain and shrubbery changes should be avoided; also, the possibility of losing a disc in regions with tall trees, thick growth or deep water is high.
Historically, disc golf is associated with the seemingly puzzling history of the leisure flying disc particularly as popularized by Wham-O. However, there is no solid evidence. Generally, modern disc golf is traceable to late 60s, as it is perceived that it probably had been invented by many people in different places independently. The major renowned personalities in golf disc are Steady Ed Headrick and George Sappenfield. The PDGA which is the first disc golf association was formed by Headrick. PDGA now officiates the standard rules of play for disc golf.
Disc Golf's growth rate has increased to 12-15 percent yearly for over ten years now; there are almost 3,000 courses in the United States alone, and more than 3,000 worldwide. Frisbee golf is currently played in more than forty countries of the world, especially in Central and Western Europe, North America, New Zealand as well as Australia.
Although male players are more when compared to the number of women that play disc golf, there is Women's Disc Golf Association which was formed to boost the zeal of female players, and also to organize disc golf tournaments for women.
