Don't panic! You can follow these steps with little to no knowledge.

The probable reason why the computer has slowed down could be a combination of reasons. First of all it has likely had a build-up of registry entries, adware, software and programs that are taking up valuable space and slowing the PC. Furthermore, if you browse the Internet then you may have a build up of temporary files and possibly adware, spyware or even viruses.

Here is a list of quick procedures you can take to try and get your computer running at full speed again:

- Clear Internet Files - Delete all of your temporary Internet files from your web browser such as Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. This should especially be done if you use the Internet quite a lot.

- Windows Disk Cleaner - Through the start menu (if using Windows) go to 'Disk Cleanup' in Accessories. This will remove unused files from your computer's hard drive.

- Windows Fragmenter - Go to start menu, then accessories and 'disk defragmenter'. This may take a while but once completed your files on the hard drive will be logically arranged and therefore your programs and files will open quicker.

- Run a virus check - Make sure to constantly keep your virus software up to date and regularly scan your hard drives and files. Viruses can slow your PC down and by keeping to the highest level of security for your computer will lessen this risk;

- Firewall - make sure you have a firewall active if you browse the Internet;

- Uninstall old programs and software - if there are old programs and software on your computer that you no longer use or need, uninstall them by going to Start - Control Panel - Uninstall A Program. This will make finding files on your PC quicker;

- Check for Adware and Spyware - One big problem if you surf the Internet is Adware and Spyware which s notorious for slowing your PC down. The problem is you might not even notice it's there and virus software and other programs may not detect it either. It is best to have dedicated software to search and delete all Adware and Spyware from your machine.

- Clear Your Registry - delete old registry entries of your computer, There are free scans you can use to see what may need cleaning, especially if your computer is over year old.

If you follow the steps above, you should have a noticeably speedier computer. If not then maybe you need to upgrade some parts such as graphics card, CPU or memory.
