Discover the Best Ingredients in Aging Skin Moisturizers by:Dorothy A. Pela

I don't know about you, but when I was younger I did not even know

, or better yet I did not care at all, about aging skin moisturizers. Let's face it; when we are at the prime of our youth, our skin looks its best: smooth, radiant, supple.

As we grow older, however, time takes its toll: Gradually our complexion becomes dull losing its youthful glow, our skin begins to sag and the wrinkles we all dread start to become more visible.

One of the most important reasons which set the aging process in motion is skin dehydration, i.e. loss of skin moisture.

Let me explain.

One very important function of the outer layer of our skin called epidermis is to regulate the flow of the water that we have inside our bodies, into the environment. This loss happens constantly through evaporation from the epidermis.

In our youth (up until our early thirties), it is estimated that around 15% of our epidermis consists of water. As we grow older, however, our skin loses its ability to retain water. If the amount of water falls below 10%, then our skin is considered to be dry and needs our attention.

Besides reasons that have to do with the natural aging process, water loss is further aggravated by our exposure to the elements - sun, wind and cold.

This is the point where a good aging skin moisturizer comes into play. Its primary function is to replenish the lost moisture and complement the skin's natural ability to retain water.

However, not all aging skin moisturizers that now exist in the market are equally effective. After doing my own bit of research, I finally discovered a couple of ingredients, which, when contained in your moisturizer will do wonders for your skin.

First of all, let me introduce you to Phytessence Wakame. This exotic sounding substance has Japanese origin and is truly amazing. It is extracted from a type of algae found in the seas around Japan and it is clinically proven to augment our skin's natural ability to retain water.

It is also a very potent antioxidant, meaning that it is very effective in destroying the free radicals. In case you don't know what these are, they are large molecules, very reactive, which are mainly produced in our skin as a result of the sun's UV radiation. If left untreated, they tend to destroy skin cells, thus accelerating the aging process.

Another ingredient which is a must for high quality aging skin moisturizers is called Cynergy TK. This is breakthrough stuff. Its main constituent is keratin, a protein which is produced naturally by our skin and it is vital for its elasticity and resilience.

The effectiveness of Cynergy TK is backed by clinical studies. As a matter of fact, experiments conducted on human volunteers showed a marked increase in their skin's moisture level (over 14%) and its elasticity (42%). And this, in a mere period of just 18 days!
