Steve Lindsay, the commander of the Discovery mission, vividly described how he got "always struck" by the "powerful and beautiful" space. "It is just overwhelming, that is the way it feels to me.", he added with joy. For Eileen Collins, who took the pilot's seat, aboard Discovery, and became the first woman ever to fly a shuttle, the journey is most memorable. Again with Discovery, Dr. Bernard Harris, set the record of the first African-American in space. As the 30 year old Discovery reaches its final stage, flight leader Richard Jones, at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, said he was proud to be the member of Discovery family and a part of its final journey to space. "What I will look back on is that that mission was just one of many, many accomplishments, and it was part of the shuttle era," Jones said.

This time when the Discovery arrives at International Space Station, it will deliver some additional, yet important, spares and storages to aid few advanced experiments. Discovery will launch the first humanoid robot in the extraterrestrials. The robot is mechanized to walk inside the International Space Station. Alongside two spacewalks are planned for maintenance and up-gradation. Discovery will set a landmark during its last journey, to become a pacesetter for the $2 million Robonaut, commonly known as R2.
