Discussing Younger Generation Pilots
Gaining a pilot licence is tough and requires much dedication alongside time to clock up air miles
. Training is intense but at the same time can be an exhilarating experience as a hobby which can sometimes lead to a career of passion. So what is the best age to begin studying for this privileged licence? Statistics taken from the Air Transport Association (ATA) suggests that the average age of an airline pilot is around 41. Whilst this may be the case for airlines specifically, it is not to say that the younger generation cannot get in on the action.
There are adolescents all over the world, from all walks of life who have undergone pilot training and not only come out with their licence but achieved great things also. Most recently a 22 year old male from Switzerland has set out to re-enact his favourite fictional childhood story involving Phileas Fogg who travelled the world in eighty days. Although taking a slightly different route, the young hopeful is aiming to visit 43 cities and 21 countries that cover the four European continents. The total distance will be 40,000 km and has been designed as a record breaker to beat the 2007 champion.
Six years his junior, a 16 year old male from Canada took has taken it upon himself to fly solo across the country. At such a delicate age, it is clear this individual lives and breathes for flying. Despite some negative press this talented male has no desire to quit and will complete the course prepared with precision and professionalism. Such stories are inspiring to people of all ages who share the eagerness to fly.
It is reported that children as young as 10 years old are undertaking flying lessons. One little girl at just 5 years old requested a flying lesson for her birthday which was executed the very day she turned 6. Whilst this is perhaps a novel idea, the enthusiasm of these children to learn and qualify as a pilot in their own right is immediately obvious. Many have parents who are dedicated to making it happen which in itself is the exact support required.
When it comes to flying, age is not an issue. To fly with an airline takes many years of experience both in the air as well as life. As a hobby however and for those wishing to break a record, as the saying goes, the skys the limit! Age becomes a non-entity and with the right guidance and plenty of support children are able to fly with the best of them.
