Disk Defragmenter is a useful tool of Windows XP which is used for reducing the amount of fragmentation in file systems and organizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously. Now you just need to follow the steps below to defragment your hard disk.

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Open.

2. Right-click the volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then click Defragment Now.

4. The Disk Defragmenter will show.

5. Click the volume that you want to analyze or defragment

6. You can click Analyze. And then click View Report to view the Defragmentation Report, which displays detailed information about the volume that you defragmented.

7. Click Defragment to defragment the volume right away.

Defragmenting hard disk is a time-consuming process and depends the amount of fragment in your computer. The more fragment in your computer, the more time it takes to defragment. In my opinion, Disk Defragmenter is a good defragmentation tool but not excellent. Because it has some limitations.

Firstly, it only defragments one volume at a time and cannot analyze another volume while it is defragmenting one. Secondly, it's not that effective as you expect. It is just an attachment in Windows system.
