Display board area to be created thanks to fundraising

Display boards are a popular way for firms and other groups to convey information

. This may be to people within the organisation or those outside.

One organisation determined to take advantage of display panels in this way is the one that runs St Wystan's Church, the Burton Mail reports.

The building needs to be renovated and, some time ago, the Repton Church Heritage Appeal was launched with the aim of generating 240,000.

Now, the target figure has nearly been reached and part of this will go towards creating an area in which display boards will feature.

The appeal to renovate St Wystan's Church was launched in April 2008 and is only a few thousand pounds from completion.

Hundreds of people have been involved in the money making scheme and a thanksgiving service was held recently in honour of their efforts.

As well as the area for display panels, the improvements to the construction will include the provision of disabled facilities, better access, a new kitchen and new flooring.

In addition, tables and chairs will be sourced for informal meetings and church activities and new toilets will be installed.

A number of organisations have provided assistance to the project, with grants coming from the Allchurches Trust, the Beatrice Laing Trust, Derbyshire Churches and Chapels Preservation Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, the Rank Foundation and Lafarge Aggregates.

The Allchurches Trust aims to promote the Christian religion and does so by contributing funds to charitable institutions, associations, funds or objects.

Without the contributions from it and the other trusts, the church project may not have succeeded in generating sufficient levels of cash.

Commenting on the money raising, appeal treasurer John Perks said: "A major part of the purpose of the project has been to help enable a wonderful historic church building to become an attractive place for members of our village community to meet."
