To accommodate the working class, many colleges and universities have begun offering distance learning courses

. As a result, many degrees can be earned completely via the computer. Many of these degrees can be obtained between one and two years. As a prospective distance learner, you must decide is if this type of education is right for you. Here are some things to think about if you are considering distance learning.

In some respects, online education requires more study time than if you went to class. The learner must complete all lectures, videos and assignments independently. Also there are more reading assignments because you are learning on your own. The student should be ready to spend at least eight to ten hours per week on reading and completing assignments.

What type of learner are you? If you need to have someone talking to you in person, then you need to take your classes on campus. This allows you to ask questions and get instant feedback for assignments. However, if you can research and gain knowledge through video lectures, scenario videos, and magazine articles, then, online education is idea for you.

Stamina is an important part of online education. Once the new wears off, you have a tendency to slack on doing the work. Putting off the work gets easier and easier when your favorite show is on television or your friends want you to go and party. You have to continually devote yourself to learning when you are gain an education via the computer.

A disadvantage to take online classes is that you have limited contact with classmates. You may be located in Arkansas while your classmates may be located in Germany, Ireland, or Kentucky. With this being said, you will have limited verbal conversations with your classmates. Your instructor is usually only available via email or through an academic advisor.

Many online universities have limited accreditation. You will be required to obtain credentials in their home state and then transfer that certification to your state. States are different in their requirements for transferring endorsements. The best idea is to check with the certifying board in your home state to obtain their requirements for certification.

Several colleges and universities have started offering classes and degrees for those individuals interested in distance learning. As a prospective distance learner, you must research the online university to see if this is something that is right for you. You may be able to take distance learning class through a local university, or you may choose to take online classes from an out-of-state university. Hopefully, you will find the degree program that is right for you.
