Nowadays distance learning becomes more popular than ever

. There are many reasons why people prefer distance learning to the traditional one: working while studying, getting second degree, learning something one always dreamed of. It goes without saying that distance learning has its undeniable positive aspects among which flexible schedule and ability to study in the laid-back home atmosphere are the most valuable ones.

Though its necessary to look into the subject carefully and face all the drawbacks to see the whole picture of distance learning as it is. Lets consider the most significant ones.

Distance learning is not for all people

Such kind of education demands perseverance, carefully planning of time and, moreover, strong will as it often turns to be hard for students to make themselves work. A lot of time and absence of external motivation frequently cause procrastination.

Distance learning does not provide immediate assessment

The major advantage of traditional form of education is that students knowledge can be immediately assessed by a teacher and students are given detailed recommendations how to improve their level. Distance learning doesnt offer this.

No so called college experience

Many students value college as a centre for communication, fraternities, and stormy parties. But if you are a working professional such an experience is not apparently the very thing you are looking for. On the contrary, teenagers face such negative points:

1.Lack of practicing verbal interaction with professors and other students;

2.Studying alone and, as a result, missing social intercourse;

3.College friendship usually lasts for many years after graduating but distant learners are isolated from the college life.

All in all, distance learning is apparently suitable for those who are able to organize their day and work systematically. Moreover, people who prefer working alone rather than team working will find it useful. Anyway, one should weigh up all pros and cons before making decision and choose what fits them.
