Distinguish between Diamond Cuts

Did you know that all diamonds vary in size shape and color

? The shapes of diamonds are categorized into cuts, and of those cuts each stone has a different length, width and weight. However, before I get ahead of myself, let's distinguish the difference between each cut.

Different types of diamond cuts:

Round: The round shape is the most popular of all the diamond cuts. For years diamond cutters have worked to perfect the round shape and after 100 years of trying the round shape has the best overall balance in cut, color, and clarity.

Princess: The most popular engagement ring shape, the princess cut is square and has pointed corners. If it is a near colorless diamond then color may be slightly visible in corners.

Cushion: Cushion cut diamonds have been popular for more than a century. Its rounded corners have large facets that highlight diamonds clarity. This type of cut varies in shapes of square and rectangle.

Marquis: The weight of the Marquis cut makes the diamond looks larger. Side stones that would complement the Marquis shape are pear or round shaped stones. The shape of the Marquis cut can make the fingers of the person wearing it look elongated and slender.

Emerald: Emerald cuts have a Pavilion and carry a unique visual appearance. The Pavilion highlights the clarity of the diamond and Emerald shaped stones can vary in how rectangular they are.

Asscher: Asscher cuts are almost identical to Emerald shaped stones. Also displaying the Pavilion feature it is cut with rectangular facets.

Heart: The Heart shape has always been the symbol of love, and a diamond heart cut is no different. The unique Heart cut looks great even in a near colorless grade however because of the shape color may be visible in corners.

Radiant: The signature feature of the Radiant cut diamond is its trimmed corners. This cut is versatile with all types of diamond jewelry and is complemented best with other stones in the baguette or round shapes.

Pear: Also referred to as the Tear Drop shape the pear cut is popular for all types of diamond jewelry. Like the emerald cut this cut is also known for slimming the fingers.

Oval: A look similar to the round cut, the Oval shape brings a bit of brilliance to any ring setting. The Oval cut is popular for highlighting long, slender fingers.
