Symptoms of diverticulitis can arise when areas of the the large bowel become inflamed

As it is known as a digestive disease diverticular problems are mainly present in the large intestine. When there is pressure in the colon or large bowel that can cause the tissue of the walls to bulge with outward pressure this may form sacs. These sacs or pockets are known as diverticulum.
Diverticular disease can occur in the areas of the bowel known as the Descending colon, the Sigmoid colon and Transverse colon. The area mostly affected is the Descending colon on the left side. This is between the Transverse colon which lays across the abdomen and the Sigmoid colon which ends above the Rectum.

Cramping pain may be felt when the problem stretches over several days. There may be the symptoms of a bloated feeling plus alternating diarrhea and constipation. After several days if symptoms are increasing then a doctor should be visited.
In the case of a severe attack symptoms will come on suddenly. If treatment is delayed then complication can result where the bowel may have ruptured and there will be severe pain. If blood is present in the toilet or stools then a medical practitioners advice should be sought very quickly.
There are a number of other problems which can also emerge with this disease and that can be a blockage in the bowel area or the formation of an abscess these situations may also cause intense pain. Medical attention should not be delayed if anything like this is suspected.
