Diwali: The Festival of Gifts

Starting from the first day of the five-day long Diwali

, it's all about buying new items and gifts for near and dear ones. The first day, Dhanteras, is regarded as auspicious for houses and business establishments. It is regarded to be a good practice to buy gold or silver items on Dhanteras in order to herald good fortune into one's life. For those who can't afford to buy expensive gold or silver items, buying utensils is considered to be equally auspicious. After that, comes the main Diwali where along with bursting fire-crackers and enjoying with friends and family, exchanging gifts is also an important tradition. Generally sweets, dry fruits, silver show piece items, etc are given as Diwali Gifts but currently Diwali Gifts include a wide variety of items such as Designer Indian Clothes like Sarees, Salwar Kameez, Kurta Pyjama, Sherwani,etc. Alternatively, jewellery also forms quite a popular choice for Diwali Gift for women. Women love to receive exotic Indian Jewelry such as Kundan Jewelry, Stone Jewelry, Gold-Plated Jewelry, etc as gifts and expanding their collection. After the gifting saga of Diwali is over, it's time for yet another gifting ritual on Bhai Duj or Bhaiyya Dooj which is ancient Indian tradition to celebrate the love between a brother and a sister. Sisters pray for the well-being of their brothers while brothers present them with wonderful Bhai Dooj gifts to express their love, gratitude and affection.
