If the client knows that they are going to need delivery services on a holiday, contact the delivery company to make sure that they will have someone available for them. Chances are good that they will.

Some deliveries just cannot wait. Medical deliveries are a prime example. The delivery of life saving medicines or of transplant organs might need to be done on a moment's notice. Other businesses that operate on the holidays also need service on those days. So, most of the major and local delivery services will be open. They might, however, be available for only certain hours on those days. So make sure to check on your delivery service's availability before making your own holiday plans.

One stipulation to holiday deliveries is that they will usually cost more. The companies realize that their employees are making a sacrifice in order to be available to work. They are giving up valuable time with their families, so the companies compensate their employees accordingly. Generally, this compensation is 1 1/2 to 2 times their regular wages. Accordingly, delivery charges will be higher to help compensate the drivers and other employees who will be working on that day.

Not all delivery service companies will be fully operational on the holidays. There will be some that elect to close down entirely on those days to allow their employees to spend time with their families. Many companies make this decision in the belief that they will be better able to retain the best workers by allowing them to have the holidays off. They also believe that employees who value this time with their families are better and more productive employees on other days of the year.

If the sender knows they are going to need delivery services on the holidays this year, do not just assume that the preferred company is going to be available. If they have not yet reached out to them, then they need to contact them about their holiday schedule this year. Should the Miami courier service that the customer usually uses not be running holiday deliveries this year, it is certain that one of their competitors will be available for their business instead.
