Do Not Believe All That You Read About Wrinkle Repair Cream

The FDA recently sent a letter to the manufacturer of a wrinkle repair cream. The FDA's problem was that if the claims were true, the ingredients are untested drugs. It is likely that the claims are not true.

Supposedly, the product in question contains stem cells or stimulates the skin's stem cells to produce. There are some nutritional formulas that have been proven to stimulate the production of new cells when applied topically. But those formulas were not included in the product.

The company's claims included one about how hyaluronic acid could help reduce spider veins. There is no evidence that hyaluronic acid applied topically can do that or anything else.

Hyaluronic acid has become one of the most popular ingredients for skincare products according to another recent report. But the popularity is not due to the effectiveness of the ingredient. Dermatologists say it cannot penetrate.

When dermatologists inject hyaluronic acid, they do so to plump-up the skin's layers. Many other injectable solutions have that same action. By plumping the deepest of the skin's layers, the injections stretch out wrinkles.

A wrinkle repair cream should contain an ingredient called wakame kelp. It has proven to be beneficial for increasing the skin's hyaluronic acid content, something that normally decreases with age. The decrease has a negative effect on the skin's firmness and contributes to decreased production of new skin cells.

Argireline is another of the ingredients found in the product the FDA had issues with. Argireline is a synthetic form of a naturally occurring protein. It is supposed to relax the skin's tiny facial muscles, which is similar to what happens with Botox injections. The FDA says that makes it a drug.

The biggest problem with Argireline is that the safety of the ingredient has not been verified. A wrinkle repair cream should not contain ingredients with no proven safety records, but many of them do. Cosmetic ingredients are not carefully tested for safety.

Finally, there was a claim about how you can "lose your wrinkles". That is obviously an exaggerated claim. While there are ingredients like coenzyme Q10 that may reduce the depth of wrinkles and repair sun damage, there is no topically applied solution that will completely cure wrinkles.

It is smart to use a good antioxidant-rich anti-aging cream. It will help to keep free radical damage to a minimum and free radical damage is a major problem.

The FDA might be wrong about wrinkle repair cream, in general. There are some natural solutions that work like drugs, but are completely safe. But they are probably not wrong about that particular product. It isn't one of the best.
