Do Not Use Too Many Adverts When Blogging?
Advertising is great for all concerned, it lets people know about new products and services
, it gives information, and it makes you money, good. But too much advertising can be a very bad thing and it often breeds discontentment and greed, neither of which is very pretty. Used the wrong way, the advertising on your blog could lose you a lot of visitors, not exactly what you want. So you have to incorporate adverts in your blogging and get it just right.
If you think that the more adverts on your blog the merrier, and triple your ads and it will triple your income, you could not be more wrong. What will actually happen is that you will join the advertiser's black list. All advertisers have guidelines concerning the number of ads that can be placed on a page. Usually this number ranges between 3 and 5. It all depends on the sponsor.
If you do not want to break the good will that exists between you and your affiliate or advertising program, learn what the policies are and respect them.Is that a blog or a splog? One of the worst labels a blog can be slapped with is 'splog'. That's the name given to any blog that contains spam. If a blog is nothing more than just pages upon pages of advertising and little content, you'd probably be better off publishing a fashion magazine.
Too many adverts on a blog will distract, and even frustrate your visitors. Some, especially, the very wary ones, will exit the blog very quickly. If your pages look more like an infomercial, it will be very annoying and you will lose any of the good reputation you are trying to build up.
The main problem with blogs that have too many advertising units is that they can confuse visitors. If they are confused, they're unlikely to click on any adverts, much less subscribe or buy anything. That leaves both you and your advertisers empty-handed.
A page will handle three adverts comfortably, which is usually acceptable to advertising and affiliate programs. And if you manage to place these adverts well then they will catch the eye of your visitors. Because there are fewer ads to look at, visitors will be able to select which they want to click on.
To use blog advertising correctly, first consider the type of programs you will be running. If you are going to be an affiliate to a brand or company, there are certain restrictions you have to work within. Some companies, for example, prefer not to have a competing brand's ad placed on the same blog.
Placement and aesthetics matter. Consider some of the highest-rated blogs and study their ad placements. Where are these ads placed on a page, what are their sizes relative to one another, and to the content box, and what do these ads contain? If you have seen enough of these successful blogs, you will have picked up enough lessons to know how to use blog advertising to your advantage.
