Often times we are asked, usually by schools and youth groups, whether or not we carry lanyards with a breakaway feature. Our answer to this inquiry is, "Yes, we do!" In fact, any one of our lanyard styles can have a breakaway feature. There is one main reason why this type of lanyard has gained such a large following. They are safer than your average custom lanyard.

Almost every order that Custom Lanyards Plus fulfills for schools, regardless of grade, uses the safety breakaway option. Educators and administrators love the feature because it ensures that students won't get their lanyards caught on anything.

If the lanyard were to get snagged on something, it is designed to "breakaway" at the point of the clip. There are two ways in which we design our lanyards to do this. The first is with the use of a hard plastic clip. The other is with Velcro. Needless to mention, the Velcro breakaway will release somewhat easier and faster than the hard plastic.

The standard position of the breakaway point is at the center of the back of the neck. Though this placement may seem awkward, in actuality it is the safest place. When considering the amount of pressure that can result from a person's lanyard getting caught, even with the breakaway feature you'll want to further prevent choking and avoid contact with the throat. Safety is always the number one priority.

To make your customized lanyards safer and more child friendly, we can add either breakaway option, plastic or Velcro, to any order for only $0.10 cents per lanyard. This options also allows certain amount of flexibility because the add-on does not have to be included in the entire order. You could easily do half and half or only have breakaway lanyards made for the specific number children that will be present at your event.
