The way that we look is clearly important. Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about the clothes that we wear, the style of our hair and the accessories that we think look good with our choice of clothing. We know that other people make judgements based on how we look.

As a result, we want to present ourselves in the best possible light. But do we always achieve what we set out to do? When it comes to fashion, it seems that many of us tend to make mistakes. Although we try to look great, we frequently fall short. It seems that we need to think about things a bit more carefully.

There's a real art to impressing people with the way that we dress. It needs care and attention. You may not even realise that you are setting out to impress others, but you almost certainly are. If you think about some common situations in life then you'll realise that this is the case.

Let's start with the example of the workplace. You'll be sending out signals from the moment that you set out for work each day. We have certain expectations about how professional people should look and this is reflected in the choice of clothes that we make. We want to create the right impression. It just wouldn't seem right, for instance, to see a bank manager wearing denim jeans and a t-shirt.

But it's not just at work that we feel the need to dress in a particular way. There are plenty of social engagements where we may also notice that we wish to dress the right way, or to impress others. A wedding would be a really classic example of where this would be the case.

More informal situations might include heading out for a first date. There's no doubt that, in such a situation, we pay careful attention to our clothing. We want to creative a really positive feeling.

How about when it comes to a job interview? Many employers say that they make judgements within seconds of seeing a candidate. That should tell you just how important appearances can be.

You may not think that you set out to impress others, but it's certainly the case that many of us do. Wearing the right clothes will give you more confidence in many situations, enabling you to impress the right people in life.
