Do You Have A Dog That's Always Chasing Things? Here's How To Stop Dog Chasing

Do you have one of those wonderful dogs that has the annoying habit of chasing anything and everything it sees

? Chasing is ok to an extent, but beyond that it's infuriating, exasperating and at times pretty hazardous. Wouldn't it be nice to teach your dog when he can chase and when he has to refrain from himself? There are quite a few methods that you could use to stop dog chasing, but it takes time, effort and patience.

Chasing is instinctive among all animals and especially, rampant among dogs. Anything mobile for e.g. a man on a bicycle, a jogger passing by, a moving car, etc. could catch the eye of a dog and provoke him to chase after them. So you can't put an end to it altogether.

Most dogs will give some sort of signs, which will let you know that they are planning to chase something. If you are quick enough to pick up these signals, you can stop dog chasing even before your dog begins it. However, majority of them is totally impulsive and do not convey any outward signs.

This is one of the primary things that you teach your dog, and you should make sure he listens to you and does as you say. Even though trying to stop dog chasing cannot be achieved in a day, if you really take the time and effort, it is sure to work out. To start, keep a favorite object of your dog a few feet away from him. The dog's first impulse will be to run towards it, but restrain him from doing so with a sharp "No'.

Keep in mind that this will not work the very first time you try it. It will take a lot of practice for him to learn to obey you when you command him. When he has learned to obey you, ask one of your friends to help you, by jogging or driving by, and then test whether your dog will chase him or not. If he tries chasing your friend, try commanding him the same way that you had been practicing until such a time your dog is surely able to get out of the habit of chasing things.

Of course you can't expect him to obey immediately, keep at it, and you might get desired results in time. Always treat your pet with love and never abuse him, making the mutual experience a pleasurable one.

Never ever punish your pet for disobedience when he is being trained. The poor thing only becomes more confused, and it will not serve your purpose. You have to realize that, as the owner of a dog you may be faced with a lot of problems during breaking him in.

Remember it could take a lot of effort on your dog's part to get some control on his impulsive behavior. On top of that, if you resort to punishing him for disobedience he will end up all the more muddled. One way you can touch a raw nerve in a dog is to ignore him completely. Basically being attention-seeking animals, dogs can't take such indifferent behavior from their masters, so you can be sure to elicit positive responses from him and expect him to stop dog chasing.

There are very informative websites if you need to find more ways to stop dog chasing. If he's acting up in a lot of other ways, and you need proper guidance regarding those issues as well, besides stop dog chasing, the best you can do is visit the site.
