Do You Have Everything You Need?

One of the best known scriptures of our time is the 23rd Psalm

. It is found in the Judeo-Christian Bible. The writing is attributed to David who was a shepherd as young man and later became a great king of Israel. The entire length of the scripture is only 6 verses. What I would like to do is write a series of six articles specifically commenting on each individual verse.

At this point I will emphasize that this is not an interpretation based on a particular religious belief or for a particular religious group. In fact my intention is to address it to everyone, regardless of their belief system. One of our greatest challenges today is the way we define God or Lord. We all have our own version and most of the time it is very narrow and excludes too many of our fellow human beings. So whatever your definition of God may or may not be make an attempt to read the following commentary without judgment. Avoid the temptation to try to make it fit with your way of thinking forcing it to conform to your beliefs. Truth is truth and applies equally to everyone. Somewhere along the way we have forgotten the meaning of the word gospel, it means good news.

With that out of the way lets proceed to look at the first verse of Psalm 23 taken from the NIV of the Bible.

"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want."

Since this was written by shepherd turned king, he uses visual imagery familiar to his audience. A shepherd basically watches, protects, guides and provides for the flock. What this indicates is that the Lord (however you choose to define the word) will guide, watch over you, protect you and provide for all your needs. That's why the verse ends with I shall not be in want. In modern English it means I will have everything that I need.

Let me ask you, do you have everything that you need? Why not? This does not only apply to material things but also to intangibles such as love, peace, fulfillment and happiness. It's all there for you! The only faith it requires is to believe that it is provided for you now. It's not dependent on any kind of rituals or on any religious beliefs. It applies equally to believer and non-believers alike. As I have said earlier you can choose any way you like to define the word Lord, however whichever way you define it, your shepherd is there for you and you should have no need of anything.

There is no reason for you to be in despair, fear and poverty. Abundance is yours, just allow the shepherd to guide you. You do not have to take energy or possessions of others. Peace of mind and happiness are yours and are already provided to you. All you have to do is to accept them. All I am asking you is to allow yourself not to live in lack. Do it now, just say to yourself I have everything I need now. That's it.

In my next article I will comment on the second verse, but until then focus your thoughts on this verse and accept its truth.
