After you first retire, you may think about choosing to transition into a new career rather than remain retired. More freedom is often possible with choices for your new career. The first career may have been chosen because you felt a need to make money. Now that you have retired from the first career, there may be less obligations so you can choose a career that is more towards your passion.

Some ideas for a new career for someone who was handy with tools could be: working at a Lake helping with dock repairs or maintenance; working at a Home Depot helping with renovations or teach deck building; or working at a Wal-Mart in the tools section.

Whatever new job or career chosen, it needs to be viewed as fun for the individual. What one's idea of fun is may be a nightmare for someone else. Throughout your career, you've had to do tasks that weren't fun. So now that you are in the retirement stage in life, make choices to only have fun in everything you do. Once you decide your next step, you need to understand the new job market. If you think you'll send out resumes and wait for the phone to ring, it's not often that it happens so easily. You need networking, resumes, cover letters, follow up, and internet research to name a few.

Talking to corporate executives and entrepreneurs who choose to take this route, they often felt limited, that their grey hair and age was against them. They needed to explore their perspectives, look at their belief issues and where these ideas come from.

You have to do something different to make a difference in your life. It's true, that in life, there is an observable difference between people who achieve, and those who don't, people who succeed and people who fail.
