When a dog refuses to pose for a photograph, he will usually bark at the wrong time, refuse to prick his ears, or just continuously move his tail. The obstinate behavior that the dog chooses to show would distract the portrait artist. To make sure your dog will give an interesting and conspicuous pose, you must startle it with some kind of sound. A dog who tries to search for a scent would ruin the gracefulness of the shot, but one who is mildly startled would prick up his ears and stand straight.

Taking the picture early in the morning is most recommended since it will be when he is most alert. A dog is more capable of doing the desired pose if he is hungry and alert. During this time of the day, it is cool and so his mouth would not be hanging open as much compared to the later hours of the day. Dogs that don't really look good on portraits are tired dogs, as well as dogs with mouths hanging open, except for German Shepherds and Saint Bernards.

Their reason behind this is that dog owners can make such a racket in quite the same way a nervous mother would. Also, a dog would be too familiar already with his master's tricks. The desirable response of the animal would be brought out if various sound effects were used.
