A person body can easily adapt to a drug, making it difficult to function without it. When a person tries to stop taking the drug cold turkey, they go through withdrawals. They can physically become ill; have some memory loss, mood swings, and aggressive behavior. This is why it is difficult to quit these drugs. No one wants to feel pain or agitation, so the necessity for a rehab program is imperative.

The inability to stop using a substance on their own is another sign of addiction. Even when a person wants to stop using, they are unable to make their body listen to their mind. This person will need a doctors care with dealing with these withdrawal symptoms and support from you and other loved ones. It may not make you popular with the addict in your life if you involve yourself in their life, but it could save their life. When they become clean, they will be grateful for your involvement.
