Do You Make These 7 Back-Pain Mistakes When You Sit?

Do You Make These 7 Back-Pain Mistakes When You Sit

?

1. Thinking you're too fit to suffer from back pain. You eat right, exercise regularly, and are generally in good health. Well, this isn't enough assurance that you won't ever suffer from back pain. In fact, doing exercises in bad form CAN lead to injury and back pain. This is why you still need to take some precautions even if you consider yourself to be in pretty good shape physically.

2. Repeatedly doing what doesn't work. There are several types of back support you can use when sitting in order to avoid back pain, but not all of them will work for you. The simple reason for this is that every person is unique and our body responds to back support devices uniquely as well. If you've been using a particular device for years, yet you're still experiencing back pain, why are you still using the same type of support? The good thing about having plenty of options is that you can switch to a different support anytime you need to.

3. Not dealing with pain immediately. Many people who experience back pain when they sit for prolonged periods forget about the pain the moment it disappears. What's bad about this is that you may remain ignorant about the real cause of such pain. While remaining seated for too long is a common cause of back pain, sometimes the pain you experience is actually caused by something more serious and is only aggravated by sitting for too long. It is best to identify and address the real cause of back pain immediately.

4. Treating the symptoms, but not the cause. The majority of treatments that people with back pain receive target only the symptoms; they don't really address the cause of the pain. For this reason, the pain will just keep coming back and you will continue to suffer. You need to realize that the pain itself is a signal that something is wrong. You have to get to the bottom of what's wrong in order to permanently get rid of the pain.

5. Failing to understand that back pain is a process. Chronic back pain usually takes weeks or even years to develop. The problem is that you do not become aware that something is wrong until you begin to really feel the pain. Unless you've been injured, back pain just doesn't happen overnight, so you'll have to be really in tune with your body.

6. Falling victim to the "I've tried everything" syndrome. If you keep telling yourself that you've already done everything there is to do for your back and if you insist that you're already aware of every possible treatment option but nothing works for you, then chances are great that you WILL continue to live with the pain. You have to be open to undergoing a thorough assessment and ensure that you follow whatever treatment program your doctor recommends.

7. Refusing to take control. You know your body better than anyone else and you are the one person who is most concerned about your own health. Therefore, you need to educate yourself on back pain even as you work with your doctor regarding the best treatment options.
