Do You Need A Life Coach?
Is it a sign of the times that one of the few forms of business that continues to grow and go from strength to strength is that of life coaching? OK, just step back a moment here, are you really, really sure that you actually need a life coach? If the answer is yes then why? Is it because you are prone to feelings of dissatisfaction, of inadequacy, or sadness? These feelings are both very common and very healthy, it is what drives us on both individually and collectively to do better and become a better person.
We actually need these moments of retrospection and self analysis, it is part of our individual learning curve and part of the ying and yang of opposites that as individuals we all are. How many beautiful songs, or poems have been written from a state of extreme happiness?
Do we not owe the Blues to feelings of thoughtful introspection? In many ways extreme happiness renders us into a state of unlearning stupidity, in that we become blind to all, but the source of that happiness. Do not misunderstand me, I am not advocating a life of misery, or depression, no not at all, I am merely suggesting that we need to experience both happiness and sadness in our lives in order to mature and develop. In fact I would go so far as to say that the absence in our lives of either of these extremes is for our personal development, unhealthy and that dwelling upon either our happiness, or unhappiness is self destructive in that we each of us need to find a balance in our lives.
The secret is to find a way of living that is beyond and above our ever changing emotions, try to be as the eye of the storm and allow both the happy and sad moments in our life to come and go. For sure good times will follow bad times will follow good times. Find a way if you like of being as a passive observer of these transient changes of emotion and not attach ourselves to either emotional extreme. If we can find a way of achieving this we can evolve through the different phases of life and become complete and balanced human beings.
Still not convinced, your life is such a mess, such a disaster that you need a personal life coach, in fact you need a life coach right now? How are you going to find the perfect life coach for you? There are an awful lot of life coaches out there right now, so how can you be really sure of finding the right one? Look at the question another way, what qualities should a person have to qualify him, or her in guiding and advising you on how you should live your life?
We are all of us far more capable of seeing the faults and imperfections in others, is that not a fact? Does this mean that we each have either the capability, or the right to advise others how to live their lives? I have personally read the words of advice from differing life coaches and to be honest some of what I have read has shocked me in that at times the advice being offered is worse than bad, it is dangerous, misinformed and for the hapless, or vulnerable followers could even be psychologically dangerous.
Why the sudden rise and rise of life coaching? Is it because we live in a society, a culture that has persuaded us that we can buy whatever we need? Does it stem from the mindset of I want it all and want it now, or is it due to the increasing irrelevancy of religion for so many people? Do we really think that we can buy contentment and happiness? Well I guess it is a perfect example of capitalism in action and that where there is a need and a buck to be made there will be people that will make the most of the opportunity.
There have been some very wise and kind life coaches through the ages. Jesus Christ was a perfect example and he did not charge 1 cent for his advice, but sadly his words of advice were regarded as being very dangerous for the then authorities of the time and he was put to death.
Could it just be that the perfect life coach for each one of us lies within each one of us? Ultimately if you completely disagree with all that has been written above you will find a huge choice of life coaches in your local Yellow pages,or online, good luck.
