Do You Prefer Gemstone Engagement Rings ?

It used to be that engagement rings featured a wide variety of different gemstones

. You could pick the one that suited you the best. The diamond craze was really just commercially created by the diamond cartels - people like De Beers. This whole "How can two months' salary last a lifetime" thing is just a big push to sell diamonds.

In actuality, diamonds are much more common on Earth than other gems (rubies, sapphires, etc). They also, don't last forever. They slowly convert back into basic carbon. Black diamonds, such as the ones used for industrial purposes because they're not as pretty to look at, are just white diamonds that are closer to reaching that basic carbon level again.

First of all, it is more likely to be unique, and therefore more meaningful in the long run. Second, it goes against the hype about diamonds, which leads to the control of De Beers, and the much higher price of diamonds than they would otherwise get. Third, it says you care more about each other, and less about what society thinks, and that can be a sign of strength in the relationship. Finally, I think it can be much more aesthetically pleasing. Diamonds can be pretty boring. Just white. Standard cuts of stone. Something different gives you a chance to do something more striking, and special. If someone is considering this for you, I'd say you're very lucky to have found such a guy.

My wife actually don't want a diamond engagement ring. She said there are simply too many conflicts centered around diamonds. Unfortunately she don't know that much about those conflicts--her interest really lies in food and health - but she knows enough to know that she would want her diamonds mined in an ecologically friendly and sustainable manner, and to know that they come from a place that does not use children to mine the diamonds.

Plus, color just seems so much more fun to her. It's much more her!

I'm really one of the luckiest men on this planet that my wife is so down to earth that she requires no make up or beauty aids of any kind. She does not look for attention through fashion, she wont shop in the fashion, brand name stores, her preferred stores are second hand and Ive waited at times for hours outside the goodwill store!

The only thing she really does that any fancy is her hairdresser, usually just wash and trim.

My wife could have the world if she wanted it,I was all set for a life of probably keeping up with Joneses after listening to others that married, its sort of a nice let down in a way. The ring one wears should be the one they are happy with, its there to show your married and not your wealth status!!

If you wanted a turquoise mounted engagement ring I say why not?!!! It's also a very beautiful rock!!I tried to find at least a guide for engagement rings, all there was Diamonds!!

Stick with what you like and not with the world!!!
