Do you have security trouble on your computer
? part one
This article is number one in a two part series about problems with security on your computer. When we talk about security on the computer, we are talking about several different layers that you have to worry about.
The first layer that you have to worry about is security when it comes in the form of the different malware that might attack your system. The other layer that we will discuss in the second part of the serious is the physical layer. In other words, how you interact with different web sites and the people around you. The wrong interaction with people both online and off can cause you to have serious security problems as well.
So let's get started with our malware discussion.
The many different forms of malware
When it comes to malware, you can be attacked by the many different forms of it. When it comes to malware, most of the time, they only think about viruses. That is far from the only thing that you have to worry about.
Malware covers a wide range of software abuses that can happen to your computer. Yes, the malware can be in the form of a virus but it can also be in the form of a Trojan, Worm, Botnet, Rootkit or one of the many other ways that it can happen.
Most of these infections name deal in the way that they are spread from computer to computer. Trojans hide the malware in the form of something safe, Worms travel from computer to computer on a network, a Rootkit stays in the background of the computer undetected and is usually delivered by one of the first two methods and the same with a botnet.
All of these infections can be a serious security risk but luckily we have ways that we can stop them. Some common sense and the right software installed on your computer and you will be able to kill these infections off without a problem.
Stopping the malware
For something as slippery to deal with as a worm, to stop it from getting on your computer in the first place can be ordeal. It can be stopped though by having a good firewall installed on your system.
A firewall is a piece of software that will block the ports that are open on your computer. That is the main way that a worm travels, through the use of open ports.
Everything else on our list can be stopped by the use of good antivirus software.
As a computer user, you need to get in the habit of scanning everything that comes onto your computer. This way you will be able to stop any infection before it takes over your system. Also you should be sure that you update it as well. A non updated antivirus will let a whole host of infections be able to take over your computer.
In part one of this series, we discussed the actual malware that can attack your computer. As you can see there are many and they are easily stopped if you are careful.
In the second part of the series we will discuss what you can do when you go on a web site or talk to people in real life, to protect your security as well.
