Does Ill-health In Retirement Mean An End To An Enjoyable Life?
One of the hottest topics today is care for the retired community
. An increasing percentage of most communities are becoming retired and caring for those involved becomes a significantly increasing task. For those who have remained healthy into their retirement the issues tend to revolve around economics, having enough money to live a full and active life, however for those whose health deteriorates in retirement the issues become a lot more complex.
When an elderly person requires increasing levels of care, often the immediate family is the solution but caring for a relative can put a strain on many families and when they find that they cannot continue care facilities are usually the answer. Good quality care facilities are usually expensive and poor quality facilities are not a solution that many people will enjoy experiencing.
For someone who has worked hard for most of their life, provided and cared for a family being shut away in a small and basic room in a poor care facility will not seem like sufficient reward for their hard work in previous years.
Looking at other countries for residential care has had to become an increasing trend. In Mexico care facilities have developed to cater for the American market but whilst Mexico might be a low-cost destination but this benefit can be far outweighed by its huge crime rate, with the related risks.
Thailand has long been at attraction for those who require affordable but first class medical care. The cost of medical treatments in Thailand can be as low as 10% of those in the USA and there are many hospitals with international high standards available for those who require this affordable health care.
Additionally Thailand has for many years been an attractive destination for the retired, but only recently have facilities begun to appear to care for those whose health starts to deteriorate. Most of the things that Western people need for a good life are available in Thailand. The Thai people are naturally friendly, crime is very low and the cost of living is not high. International TV especially international sports are widely available as are the foods that we are used to buying back in our home country. Add these benefits to affordable health care and it is not difficult to see the attractions of Thailand for the retire
One example of the facilities available for those who need care in their retirement will open in January 2013 near Chiang Mai, in the north of Thailand. Care Resort Chiang Mai is a luxury care facility. Accommodation is provided in individual villas set in the gardens of this beautiful 12 acre resort. Each room is alarmed to a central care/nursing facility which is manned 24 hours. The resort offers a high level of care, matched by a high degree of independence for the individual if required. Community spirit is catalysed by a strong activities and excursions programme. Care Resort Chiang Mai is being set up to provide a luxury care environment with possible surprisingly affordable costs.
Ill health in retirement doesn't need to tear families apart or end up in a depressing facility for those involved. There can be options that provide an affordable yet attractive solution.
