Does It Hurt To Have Teeth Prepared For Laminates?

Dentists in Palatine spend a great deal of their time performing cosmetic procedures

. More and more people are taking advantage of the advances that have been made in cosmetic dentistry to find a variety of ways to improve their smiles. This means that dentists are spending more time than ever before doing procedures such as whitening teeth and applying laminates. Laminates in particular are becoming very popular, but people do have some questions about the procedures which are used in the application of laminate veneers.

One of the most common questions that these dentists are going to be asked is whether or not it hurts to get your teeth prepared for laminates. The truth is that this question is almost impossible to answer, because it is completely on a case by case basis whether or not getting your teeth prepared for laminates is going to hurt.

The reason for this is every person's teeth are different. This means the amount of preparation which is done to the teeth in order to make them ready for the application of laminates is going to differ. Sometimes, people have teeth which require very little or even no preparation in order to make them ready to apply a laminate veneer. In cases like this, little or no pain should be associated with the preparation and application of the products.

Depending on the results which are desired, the existing state of the teeth of the patient and the judgment of the individual cosmetic dentist, sometimes more preparation is going to be required. In some cases, the reshaping of the tooth prior to adhering a veneer can be much more drastic. Sometimes it will approach closer to the preparation that would be done for the application of a crown. In some of these cases, the teeth need to be reshaped so much that the pulp of the tooth can be affected. Now, patients should have been given a numbing shot, so this procedure should not hurt at the time.

When the teeth are reshaped this much, though, it can result in some discomfort after the procedure is complete. The most common complaint that people have is that their teeth are more sensitive for a time after the veneers are applied if the teeth had to undergo significant reshaping before application of the veneers. In most cases though, there should be no pain or discomfort during the preparation of teeth for the procedure.
