Does One Size Fit All Apply to Selecting an Ink Cartridge for Your Inkjet Printer

When it comes to finding an ink cartridge for your inkjet printer, do you need to fork out the big bucks for brand new, name- brand ink, or are they all the same? Many times you can actually save a few dollars by purchasing either a compatible brand ink cartridge or even a recycled ink cartridge for your inkjet printer- but only if you pay attention to what you are buying.

A compatible name ink cartridge will often work just as well in your inkjet printer as a brand name ink cartridge. Many compatible name cartridges are made from recycled brand-name cartridges or are manufactured to the same specifications as the brand names are. You can usually count on compatible name cartridges having very similar quality to the higher priced brand name ones.

When it comes to a recycled ink cartridge, one size doesn't fit all. Recycled simply means that something is being used again. However, when it comes to an ink cartridge, it doesn't clarify what you are getting. There are two very different types of recycled ink cartridges- a refilled ink cartridge and a remanufactured ink cartridge.

A re-filled ink cartridge is just that- an empty cartridge that is cleaned and then re-filled with fresh ink. The tiny parts and pieces inside the cartridge are left as they are found, typically without even knowing if there is any damage to them or not.

A remanufactured ink cartridge, on the other hand, is basically taken apart and rebuilt from the case on up. An ink cartridge will usually contain the components that communicate with your inkjet printer. This may be a thermal unit or a crystal. When you buy a remanufactured ink cartridge, these pieces are replaced with new units, giving you a much higher print quality than a refilled ink cartridge can give you.

Another factor in the quality of a recycled ink cartridge is the quality of the ink itself and how that ink shows up on the page when you print with your inkjet printer. Extremely low-priced recycled ink cartridges may contain an inferior quality ink, which could smudge on your page or print with inconsistencies. The best way to be sure you purchase a quality recycled ink cartridge to use in your inkjet printer is to purchase from a store or online outlet with a reputation for high quality ink cartridges at reasonable prices.
