Dog Behavior Modification - The Cure to Aggressive Dog Behavior
Our little dog A.J
Our little dog A.J. has a Napoleon complex and will tear after big dogs so much so that we will often have to pick him up so he doesn't bite off more than he can chew. Otherwise he is a great dog but every so often I cannot believe the way he acts. Finally me and my wife took action and got a training guide that taught us to understand how he thinks. Here are some things that we learned in that course.
1. Genetic and hereditary factors will play a large part in how your acts. Understand the breed or breeds that make up your dog to understand why your dog acts a certain way.
2. When dogs live with people, they look at humans as members of the pack and try to establish their place in the social order by challenging the more submissive family members, particularly the children.
3. Two types of aggression or dominant aggression and passive aggression. Dominant is just as it sounds in that the dog will try to gain the dominant position in the pack and passive or submissive would be just as that sounds. This would include rolling over and licking hands.
4. Aggression prevention includes early socialization. Puppies should be handled gently, especially between three and four months of age.
5. They should not be allowed to chase children or joggers, jump on people, mount legs, or growl for any reason. They should never receive or be part of rough, aggressive play such as hand-fighting, wrestling, or tug-of-war games.
6. Finally, prevention of aggression requires that the owner win each and every confrontation with the dog. If the dog wins a showdown by growling when you try to get him off the sofa or take his toy or approach his food bowl, he receives a 'go' signal for the next step in an attempted takeover.
These are six tings that we learned when going through a dog training course. Going through a dog training program will teach you these things and more.
