Dog Clothes for the College or Sports Fan

Some sports fans will do anything to promote their team or school including dressing the family pooch in clothes emblazoned with symbols and logos. And why not? Scan the crowds at a big bowl game and you'll see the biggest guys with their faces painted, covered in school colors surrounded by frenzied fans wearing all manner of sportswear to show support for their team or school. No doubt many of these fans are also dog lovers.

NFL Dog Clothes

Every team in the National Football League has its team logo. You can find these on everything from jerseys and T-shirts to bandanas, leashes and collars. You could assemble the whole collection and be set for the whole season, right down to playoffs.

MLB Dog Clothes

Baseball fans are just as devoted to their teams as football fans are. Major League Baseball (MLB) teams also have logos that have been transferred to all sorts of merchandise, including dog clothes. In addition to the jerseys, t-shirts and bandana, baseball fans can often find team baseball hats for their dogs.

College Gear

Many dog owners are also college graduates, or members of their families are. Dressing the family pet in college colors shows their loyalty to their alma mater. But college-themed dog clothes don't have to stop with just the colors. Tees, jerseys, leashes and collars are basic college gear for the well-dressed doggie alumni. Broaden the wardrobe by adding some college sweaters. For the athletic ladies, you can scout around for college cheerleading outfits for your pooch.

Considerations

Always consider your dogs comfort and safety before purchasing your college or sports team dog clothes. Proper fit is extremely important to the safety, comfort and well-being of your dog. Clothes that are too tight and binding can be uncomfortable. They can restrict breathing and make the dog overheat. Dog clothes that are too loose can come off or cause the dog to become tangled, fall and possibly get injured.

Not all dogs take readily to wearing clothes. If your dog is unaccustomed to wearing clothing, start with an inexpensive garment and spend some time letting your dog adjust to wearing it. Try it on and remove it immediately if the dog becomes upset. If the dog tolerates the clothing, leave it on for a few minutes and then take it off. Repeat the process a few times each week until the dog is comfortable wearing dog clothes. Then it's time to bring out the sports or college clothes and enjoy.
